Firms using Gmail for their email may want to use Gmail's mail server to send bills from RTG Bills. To do so requires special settings in both RTG Bills and Gmail.
This page applies to the Windows PC version of RTG Bills. For RTG Bills Online, see Using Gmail with RTG Bills Online.
Use the following settings in RTG Bills, Setup > Email:
SMTP server: smtp.gmail.com
SMTP Port: 5870
Server Requires Authentication: checked
User Name: (your Gmail email address)
Password: (your Gmail password)
Note that port 5870 means that RTG Bills will use port 587 and TLS encryption.
These settings will cause RTG Bills to sign in with your user name and password. Initially, Gmail may not accept that method of signing in. The solution is to change a setting in Gmail that allows "less secure apps" to sign in.
You must go to Google's My Account page and choose Security. Change the Less secure app access setting to ON.

If you want to use Gmail's mail server to send bills, use the settings described above. An alternative is to use the mail server provided by your Internet Service Provider (ISP).
