Softfile Command Summary

Alphabetical List Of Commands

Attach Create a new record, attached to the record on the screen
Box Make a box on the current screen for entering text
Cut Cut out information from the current screen (to Paste elsewhere)
Delete Delete records, marks, or links
Edit Change the information on the current screen (see Editing Commands below)
Find Search for records which contain the specified words
Get Get a particular record onto the screen (see Get Commands below)
Help Enter the help system
Import Read a text file from disk into the Softfile database
List Load from disk, or save to disk, a list of selected records
Mark Mark the record on the screen for quick retrieval with View
New Create a new record, not attached to the current screen
Output Print records or write them to disk
Paste Put previously Cut information on the screen
Quit Leave the Softfile program
Set Set a reminder date, or define special-purpose records (see Set Commands below)
Unmark Remove the mark from the record on the screen
View Display the attached, marked, or selected records
Words Show words beginning with specified letters or similar to a word
= Show information about the current screen (including record number)
! Run another program without leaving Softfile
+ Add this record to the list of selected records
- Remove this record from the list of selected records
0 Display the initial screen (defined by "Set, Initial screen")
1-9 Display the record specified by the numbered link
SPACE BAR Show more commands on the screen

Shortcuts

DOWN ARROW Edit the information on the current screen (same as "Edit")
BACKSPACE Display the record viewed before this one (same as "Get, Back")
RETURN (Enter key) or PAGE DOWN Display the next record (same as "Get, Next")
. (Period key) or PAGE UP Display the previous record (same as "Get, Previous")

Editing Commands

RETURN Go to left margin on next line (or end editing if last line)
TAB Go to next tab stop or next field, i.e., column after [
ESC ESC End edit
HOME Move to upper-left corner
DELETE Delete character
BACKSPACE Cursor left
ESC RETURN Split line
CTRL-D Abort entry (for single-line input only)
CTRL-X D Delete current line (move text up)
CTRL-X E
or END
Erase from cursor to end of line
CTRL-X I
or INSERT
Insert mode on/off
CTRL-X O Open line (move text down)
CTRL-X R Reformat paragraph (from cursor down)

Get, Back Show record which was on screen before this one
Get, Next Show next attached/selected/marked record
Get, Previous Show previous attached/selected/marked record
Get, 1st Show first selected/marked record
Get, Last Show last selected/marked record
Get, Form list Show form list (record linked to forms)
Get, Output options, Printer Show printer output options record
Get, Output options, Disk Show disk output options record
Get, Record number Show specified record

Set Commands

Set, Form, List Current record will be the form list
Set, Form, Number, (1-9999) Set form number of current record
Set, Global, Initial screen, Yes Current record will be the initial screen
Set, Global, Output options, Disk Current record contains disk output options
Set, Global, Output options, Printer Current record contains printer output options
Set, Link, (1-9) Create link between this screen and target record
Set, Next Attach target record to current record
Set, Protect, Yes Protect the current record
Set, Reminder date, mm/dd/yy Set reminder date for current record ("mm"=month, "dd"=day, "yy"=year)
Set, Reminder date, RETURN Remove reminder date for this record
Set, Target Current record will be target record for "Set, Link" or "Set, Next" command
Set, Unprotect, Yes Unprotect the current record
