Downloading Softfile

Download And Install Softfile

  1. Create a folder for Softfile. We strongly recommend this name:

    c:\Program Files\Softfile

If you use any other folder, some DOS batch files will not work.

  2. Download the file into the folder you just created.

  3. Run the program softfile.exe to unpack the files.

  4. We suggest you copy softfile.exe to a floppy disk in case you want to install it on another computer, then delete it from the Softfile folder.

  5. Next you must create the Softfile database. Run the Softfile Utilities program, sfutil.exe. You should see a DOS box with the title SFUTIL. Softfile often says

... Press SPACE BAR to proceed

when there is something on the screen for you to read. Press the space bar on the keyboard.

  6. Press N for New database. Press Y to put sample data in the new database. Press Y again to create the database.

  7. To exit the Softfile Utilities program, press Q for Quit and Y for Yes.

  8. To run Softfile, run the program soft.exe.

  9. Make Windows shortcuts to both sfutil.exe and soft.exe. Change the Properties of the shortcuts so that Close on exit, on the Program tab, is checked.

  10. Read the Softfile Guide to learn how to use Softfile.
