Softfile Guide: Appendix B

Appendix B: Changing the Help File

Softfile's Help command uses a Softfile database to supply help information. A simplified version of Softfile, which uses links but has no Find command, lets you move through the help screens to find the information you need.

In order to modify the help database, you must first index the file. The Index command of the Softfile Utilities program, described in Appendix A, does this. In order to tell the utilities to work on the "help" database rather than the default "soft" database, you must include the database name after the program name when you run the program:

sfutil help

The top screen line should show that the database name is "help" instead of "soft". Now use the Index command to create the indexes: Index, No, Yes.

When the indexes are ready, Softfile can directly modify the "help" database. Again you must include the database name on the command line:

soft help

Now Softfile will let you change the help screens, add new ones, change the links, and so on.
