Step 1: Delete RTG software on Palm device
Delete all of the RTG Timer HE programs on the Palm. That will delete the data as well. These are the three programs you must delete:
CASL_Palm_Utils
CASLrt
RTG Timer
To delete a Palm application:
- Tap the Home icon. This gets you back to the "home screen" that shows icons for each application.
- Tap the Menu icon. The App menu drops down.
- Choose Delete from the App menu.
- Tap the application to be deleted, then tap the Delete button. Tap Yes to confirm.
- Repeat step 4 to delete the other applications.
- Tap Done to close the Delete screen.
Step 2: Install new CASL runtime
To install the new CASL runtime, you need RTG Upgrade V2.14 or above. Start RTG Timer and choose:
File > Upgrade > Yes > About
to display the version number. If it is below V2.14, install a later version of RTG Upgrade from here:
http://www.rtgsoftware.com/backrest.htm
When you have RTG Upgrade V2.14 or above, perform these steps:
- Start RTG Timer again and choose File > Upgrade > Yes.
- When RTG Upgrade starts, click Check The Internet For Upgrades.
- At the Internet Upgrade window, click the Other button.
- For the Upgrade Number, type in 213 and click OK.
- You will see Upgrade number 213 on the list of upgrades with a check mark in front of it. Click Install to install the new CASL runtime.
- When you see Upgrades applied: 1, click OK. Then click Close and Close again to exit from RTG Upgrade.
Step 3: Install RTG software on Palm device
Start RTG Timer on the PC and choose Setup > RTG Timer HE. Make sure everything is set correctly: the Handheld User name, the Timekeeper, the Activity Codes table, and (optionally) the Task Codes table.
The following instructions can be confusing, so please read them carefully!
Read the message in the Conduit Installation frame. If it says the conduit is
not installed, click Install to install it and click OK. If it says the conduit is installed, click Remove to uninstall it and click OK, then click Install to install it again and click OK.
Each time you click Install, the Palm programs are added to a list of items to be installed at the next HotSync. That was the purpose of the preceding paragraph, to make sure you clicked Install regardless of whether the conduit was initially installed or not.
We want the programs to be installed, but we don't want the conduit installed yet, so click Remove to remove it and click OK.
At this point, you should see the Install button, which means that the conduit is not installed. Click Save. A message reminds you that the conduit is not installed, which is correct for now. Click OK. Stop here if you see any other messages.
Step 4: HotSync #1
Now do a HotSync operation. It will install the software on the Palm. You should not get any error messages.
Start RTG Timer HE on the Palm and it will create the databases to store your data on the Palm handheld. Again, you should not see any error messages.
You should see the Select Item screen, with buttons for New, Go to, and Top. Below that is a listbox with nothing in it (yet) except [end]. That's where your transactions will appear when you enter them.
Tap the Home button to exit RTG Timer HE. A message says RTG Timer is saving data, then you should see the "home screen" (application icons).
Step 5: Install HotSync conduit
Start RTG Timer on the PC and choose Setup > RTG Timer HE. Click Install to install the conduit and click OK to the message. Click Save to exit the Setup window.
Because the conduit is installed, from now on each HotSync operation should copy data back and forth between the PC and the Palm device.
Step 6: HotSync #2
Do another HotSync. This HotSync should put your RTG Bills data on the Palm.
If anything goes wrong, stop at that point and report to RTG exactly where you
were in these instructions and what the message says.
We will want to know what version of the CASL runtime is installed. Look on the Palm's "home screen" for CASLrt (a castle icon) and tap it. The version number is shown there.
Questions about this procedure should be directed to RTG Support.
