RTG Timer HE is the version of RTG Timer for the Palm OS. This page contains instructions for upgrading RTG Timer HE to Version 2.06.

RTG Timer HE Version 2.06 is compatible with RTG Bills V2.12, V2.13, and V2.14. Earlier versions of RTG Timer HE will not work with RTG Bills V2.14.

Version 2.05 introduced several new features. However, the only difference between V2.05 and V2.06 is that V2.06 is compatible with RTG Timer V2.14. There are no additional features.

You may skip this section if you are currently using RTG Timer HE V2.05.

The database tables on the handheld computer changed with Version 2.05. What this means is that you must check the version you now have. If it is older than V2.05, the data currently in your handheld computer will not be compatible with the new version of RTG Timer HE.

Before you upgrade, you must release all transactions on the handheld computer and perform a HotSync operation to transfer them to the PC.

Next, you must uninstall the old version of RTG Timer HE on both the handheld and the PC. Detailed instructions follow.

1. Start RTG Timer and choose Setup > RTG Timer HE. Click the Remove button to remove the conduit. Click OK. Click Cancel to exit from this dialog box, then exit from RTG Timer.
   
   
2. Go to the Windows Control Panel and start Add or Remove Programs. Look for RTG Timer HE and remove (that is, uninstall) it. Be careful to remove RTG Timer HE (the Palm program), not RTG Bills and RTG Timer (the PC programs).
   
   
3. On the handheld computer, tap the Applications button, then tap the Menu button. From the App menu, choose Delete.
   
   You will see a list of installed applications. To delete an application, tap the application to select it, then tap the Delete button. Tap Yes to confirm. Delete RTG Timer HE by deleting these three applications:

   CASL_Palm_Utils
   CASLrt
   RTG Timer

   Tap Done.

If you currently use a version of RTG Timer HE older than V2.05, you must uninstall the old version of RTG Timer HE, as described in the preceding section, before you install V2.06. If you do not, you will get error messages and the transactions on the handheld computer will be inaccessible.

However, if you have RTG Timer HE V2.05, you do not need to uninstall it before you install V2.06.

We'll say it one more time . . .
If you have a version older than V2.05, do not proceed until you have:

1. released all transactions from the handheld computer,
2. performed a HotSync operation to transfer the transactions to the PC,
3. verified that they are on the PC, and
4. uninstalled the previous version of RTG Timer HE from the handheld computer and the PC.

Here are detailed directions for installing RTG Timer HE.

1. Start the installation program.
   • If you downloaded the installation file onto your Desktop, double-click the file to start the program.
     
     
   • If you purchased a CD, put the CD in your CD drive. If the installation program does not start automatically, click the Start button on the task bar. Choose Run. In the Run dialog box, type d:\timerhe. (If d is not your CD drive, substitute the correct letter.) Then click the OK button.
   
   
   
2. Read the Welcome screen and click Next.
   
   
3. The RTG Timer HE License Agreement will appear. Please read it. If you agree to the terms of the license, click I accept the agreement and click Next.
   
   
4. If you downloaded the installation file, you will be asked to type the password. (You received the password in the e-mail message that told you how to download the installation file.)
   
   Type the password. Type carefully, because you can't see the actual characters you have typed.
   
   The password always consists of four upper-case letters, a hyphen, and four more upper-case letters. The hyphen key is to the right of the numeral 0 and above the letter P. Do not press Shift when you type the hyphen, or you will get an underscore ("_") instead.
   
   Click Next.
   
   
5. You must install RTG Timer HE in the same folder as RTG Timer. If you aren't certain where you installed RTG Timer, start RTG Timer and choose Setup > Other. Click the Release tab. Click the RTG Timer Folder button. The folder name in the box is where RTG Timer is installed. Click Cancel and exit from RTG Timer.
   
   Check the directory that the installation program supplies. If that is not where you have RTG Timer installed, click Browse and select the correct location.
   
   When the correct Destination Location is shown, click Next.
   
   
6. At the Ready to Install screen, check the settings and click Install.
   
   
7. The installation will proceed automatically. Sometimes there are pauses, during which it appears that nothing is happening. Please be patient. When it is done, click Finish.
   
   
8. Start RTG Timer and choose Setup > RTG Timer HE from the menu. If this menu choice is missing or grayed out, you did not install RTG Timer HE in the right location. It must be installed where you installed RTG Timer.
   
   
9. When you see the Setup: RTG Timer HE window, click each of the List buttons to fill in the appropriate information.
   
   Check that the settings are correct.
   
   
10. Click Install to install the conduit. Click OK and then Save. You may exit from RTG Timer.
    
    

If you downloaded the installation file, copy it onto some removable medium (CD-R, Zip disk, tape). You will need this file to install the programs again if your computer crashes or if you buy a new computer. Remember to save the password also. Without it, you cannot use the installation file.

1. Whenever you install the conduit (which enables synchronization between RTG Timer on the PC and RTG Timer HE on the handheld computer), three programs are set to install on the handheld during the next HotSync operation.
   
   If you followed the instructions above, you installed the conduit. Therefore, do a HotSync operation now and the new version of RTG Timer HE will be installed on the handheld computer.
   
   
2. Start RTG Timer on the handheld computer. After a brief pause, you should see the message, Creating RTG Timer tables. Tap OK. You should see the Select Item screen. At this point, there is no data in the handheld computer.
   
   
3. Perform another HotSync operation. When this HotSync operation is finished, you are ready to use RTG Timer HE.
